Write the essential details first
Begin with names, the occasion, date, time and venue. Add the address or directions, the response deadline and a clear way to reply. You can make the wording more formal or relaxed once those details are correct.
If your celebration has a ceremony and a reception at different venues, give each its own time and address. If some guests are invited only to one part, send wording that describes their actual invitation.
- Couple’s names and who is hosting.
- The ceremony or celebration being attended.
- Date, arrival time, venue and address.
- Response deadline and personal invitation link.
- Useful dress, travel or accessibility details.
For a celebration hosted with family
A family-led invitation can acknowledge the people hosting without becoming difficult to read. Agree names and their order with the families before sending. If there are cultural or religious phrases you want to include, ask someone familiar with your traditions to check the wording.
The example below is a starting point. Replace every name and detail, and keep only the parts that fit your celebration.
Together with their families, Tharushi and Dilan warmly invite you to celebrate their marriage. Saturday, 12 June 2027, at 10:00 am. The Garden Pavilion, Kandy. Lunch to follow. Please respond by 15 May using your personal invitation link.
For a relaxed invitation from the couple
If you are hosting yourselves, a direct invitation can feel natural and welcoming. Keep the warmth, but retain the exact date and location so guests can plan their day.
We’re getting married, and we would love you to be there. Join Anika and Kavin for an evening of dinner, music and celebration on Saturday, 12 June 2027, at 6:00 pm. The Courtyard, Colombo. Please let us know by 15 May if you can join us.
Keep extra instructions easy to find
Place transport, parking, dress and accommodation notes after the main invitation. For an outdoor ceremony, a short note about the ground or weather can be more useful than a vague dress code.
Be specific about who is invited. Names or a clear party allowance are kinder than expecting guests to guess. If you need to discuss dietary or access requirements, give a private contact method; avoid asking people to post personal information in a group.
Read it as a guest would
Ask someone who has not been involved in planning to read the invitation. Can they tell when to arrive, where to go, who is included and how to respond? Check spelling, day of the week, address and phone numbers separately.
Preview the invitation on a phone before sharing. Magenda’s editable invitation collection provides a starting design, with event details and a personal response link for each invitation. The artwork inspiration gallery is separate from the editable template collection.
